Devotional : Remember Your Creator

Image
Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth. Ecclesiastes 12:1 Not everyone ages at the same rate or in the same way. Some people are full of life well on into their twilight years, while others fade long before their time. But all of us, no matter how young or old, no matter how we feel or how frail we are, are moving one day at a time toward the day that the lights finally go out... Continue reading click here

Devotional : The Subtle Influence of Error

Image
There are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. Titus 1:10-11 Beware the danger of empty talkers. The church in Crete was threatened by some within the community of faith who were nevertheless marked by rebellion. They were like those who enlist in the army, report for duty, and put on a uniform, but as soon as battle commences, they refuse to obey their commanding officer. Continue reading click here

Devotional : Where to Turn When Your Thoughts Go Dark

Image
Then David said in his heart, “Now I shall perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.” 1 Samuel 27:1 Sometimes our thoughts are our greatest enemy. However difficult his circumstance, David had always placed his confidence in God. Indeed, in the final conversation that ever took place between King Saul and David, David declared to Saul that although he didn’t know what would happen, he knew that God would deliver him from his troubles (1 Samuel 26:23-24). David had good reason for such confidence: deliverance had been a theme throughout his life. Whether it was from the lion, the bear, or the Philistine giant (1 Samuel 17:37), or, later, from Saul’s murderous pursuit of him, David was quick to attest to God’s rescue... Hebrews 9:19-21 ...For when Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, along with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep.” In the same way, he sprinkled with blood the tabernacle and all the vessels used in worship... Image
Do you know how to have meaningful conversations with atheists or how to answer their concerns when it comes to science, morality, and evil in the world? Navigating through faith conversations with non-Christians is hard enough, and you don’t want to make them even more difficult by putting yourself in the hot seat. So what’s the best strategy for Christians to use when defending the faith in a culture that is so hostile towards a biblical worldview? Christian apologist, author, and founder of  Stand to Reason , Greg Koukl, has spent the last 50 years finding and exposing the flaws in secular worldviews and showing Christians how to be intentional in leading evangelical discussions. This week, Greg joins Frank to talk about his brand-new book ‘ Street Smarts: Using Questions to Answer Christianity’s Toughest Challenges ‘, a follow-up to his best-selling book ‘ Tactics ‘. During the episode, Frank and Greg answer questions like:  Why isn’t the problem of evil a good argume

Devotional : Striving After the Wind

Image
What has a man from all the toil and striving of heart with which he toils beneath the sun? Ecclesiastes 2:22 Over the years, I’ve sat with many parents who were distraught over the potential consequences of their children’s wrongful pursuits. Each of these mothers and fathers have been disappointed in their son’s or daughter’s choices, and as we have talked it has become clear that their disappointment is grounded in their belief that everything would be much better if their child would just be like them. On further probing, it has turned out that by this they have meant that everything would be better if their child would simply give their lives completely to their work.... Continue reading here

Devotional : Friends in Christ

Image
I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. For I have no one like him … I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need. Philippians 2:19-20, Philippians 2:25 Do you have someone you would call in a moment of crisis? What qualities make him or her suited for such a responsibility? More than likely, the person you’d decide to call is someone whom you trust, and someone who you know would drop whatever he or she was doing to come to your aid. Such men and women are true friends.... Continue reading here

Historty and Church Doctrine : What Is Reformed Theology?

Image
Have you ever asked or been asked the following questions: Are you Reformed? When did you become Reformed? Is this a Reformed church? These questions are common, but they can be surprisingly difficult to answer. 1 So, what is Reformed theology? At its most basic level, the term Reformed theology refers to the theological conclusions flowing out of the Protestant Reformation. The early Reformers, such as Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Calvin, had sharp and specific criticisms of late medieval Roman Catholic theology. The Reformers rejected the Roman Catholic teaching on the nature of justification and the place of individual saving faith. They also rejected the Roman Catholic claims about the authority of the pope, asserting that the Bible alone held the place of final authority in discussions of doctrine. Further, they rejected the Roman Catholic understanding of worship and the place and meaning of the sacraments of baptism and communion... Continue reading h

Devotional : Seeing and Sharing Christ

Image
Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight … They rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven. Luke 24:31, Luke 24:33 Good news needs to be shared. Sometimes, when we have guests in our home whom we know very well, and especially if they are brothers or sisters in the family of faith, we may ask them to pray before we share a meal. It is a request meant to honor the visitor to our table. Luke’s Gospel gives us a similar scene, though here the visitor appears to have taken the lead in deciding that He would pray. After Jesus’ encounter with two disciples on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus, He “went in to stay with them” (Luke 24:29), and “when he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them” (v 30)... Podcast : How to Teach Apologetics to the Next Generation | with Brett Kunkle

Image
How can you increase the chances that your child won’t walk away from the faith when they get older? Most young people who are raised as Christians receive some form of discipleship training within the safety of their home church, rarely having their beliefs challenged by non-Christians. But are the typical youth group pizza parties and “feel good” camp experiences strong enough to sustain their faith once they become adults? In this midweek podcast episode, co-pastor and  Maven  Christian apologist, Brett Kunkle, joins Frank at  CIA 2023  to explain why he developed  immersive worldview mission experiences  for high school and college students, and how they successfully prepare young Christians to understand and articulate the truth of Christianity to others. During this episode, Frank and Brett answer questions such as: At what age should kids begin learning the basics of Christianity? How are catechisms helpful in discipleship training? What 3 stage process should you

Devotional - Bright Lights

Image
Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. Philippians 2:14-16 We all know people who light up a room when they enter it—men and women who possess qualities that make them compelling and attractive. They lift our spirits. For reasons we can’t always articulate, we enjoy being near them. ... Continue Reading

Where to Find Happiness

Examining the Evidence for the Destruction of Jericho – Part 2 | with Dr. Titus Kennedy

Image

Irresistible Call (Part 2)

Image
Popular culture generally depicts sheep as cuddly, peaceful animals. Yet, those who have spent even a small amount of time around sheep know that they are stubborn, wayward, smelly, and sometimes even vicious. This truth makes Jesus' comparison to His followers as sheep all the more poignant. We, as sinners, possess all of these qualities, some in more abundance than others. Yet, the analogy finds its most power in our Good Shepherd's willingness to know us personally, to ensure our safety, and to bring us to His Father's house. As Dr. Lawson explains in this lesson, the call of Christ to follow Him, applied by the Holy Spirit, exhibits such amazing grace and kindness that it should pull our heartstrings perpetually. Irresistible Call (Part 1)

Image
August 9   The image of conception and birth does not need much explanation. On the contrary, as human beings we understand vividly and fully the passive activity of the infant in birth. At no time does the baby possess any decision or authority in its conception or growth, but it comes into the world helpless and in total dependence on external forces. Jesus knew the power and clarity surrounding this process, and He used it metaphorically to describe the work of the Holy Spirit in regeneration. As Dr. Lawson demonstrates in this lesson, Jesus, and John through Him, leaves no ambiguity to the process of salvation: God carries out His sovereign will in salvation, and spiritually dead hearts, like a baby, cannot contribute or refuse.
