Devotional : Confidence in God’s Promise
This very night there stood before me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship, and he said, “Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.” So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.
As Paul traveled as a prisoner on a boat to Rome, a debate broke out
concerning the right course of action for their trip. During the debate,
Paul gave a warning (Acts 27:9-10). Apparently, he had already
identified himself by his character and leadership, and when it came to
sea voyaging, he had wisdom to share. So Paul advised against continuing
the voyage on the basis of what he knew about the sea and the season,
and from his personal experience of being shipwrecked (2 Corinthians
11:25).
