Devotional : On Our Behalf

Image
Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written. Exodus 32:31–32 When the Israelites were redeemed from bondage, God instructed them to ask their former Egyptian landlords and owners for gold, silver, and clothes to take with them as they crossed over into the promised land. This would provide the material for the construction of the tabernacle-tent in which God would dwell among His people. Continue reading click here

Bible Study : Jacob, Joseph, and Jesus: EVEN MORE “Third Day” References in the Old Testament | with Dr. Chip Bennett

Image
Is the whole of Scripture just a disorganized collection of conflicting documents? Some scholars think so, claiming it to be a battleground for historical contradictions. But what if it’s actually a carefully orchestrated thread, woven together and preserved by the Divine Author Himself? Just a few episodes ago,  Dr. Chip Bennett  wowed listeners with his insights into the resurrection themes and third day narratives from the Old Testament. For this midweek podcast episode, Chip returns to dive even deeper into the Hebrew Bible and to uncover how the Messianic prophecies are intertwined with the tales of patriarchs like Jacob, Joseph, Joshua, and Judah. How do some of our daily routines point to the resurrection? Can the story of Cinderella shed light on the Gospel? How does the third day relate to life and death motifs? All these questions and more will be answered in the conclusion of this special three-part series. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to check ou

Devotional : Peace That Is Possible

Image
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Romans 12:18–19 The Bible is a wonderfully practical book. Its wisdom is both rich and realistic, and the longer we live, the more meaningfully we hear it speaking to our every situation. As we age, many of us realize that our parents were often correct in their warnings and wisdom; and as we walk by the light of God’s word, so it will be proven right in time, every time. Devotional : Live in Harmony

Image
Live in harmony with one another. Romans 12:16 It requires skill and godliness to disagree graciously. It’s easy to get along with people with whom we share everything in common, where there is no concern about disagreement. But to live in harmony with people who look different and live differently than we do—that is a true sign of Christian maturity. So the expectation of the apostle Paul is that as Christians we will make the effort to do just that. Continue reading click here

Devotional : Divine Enthusiasm

Image
Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Romans 12:11 Picture a kitchen in an old British farmhouse, in which sits a pan on the stove, full of water bubbling away. That is the image Paul provides here regarding spiritual commitment. He essentially says that in Christ we are to keep the spiritual pot boiling. We’re not to go hot and then cold—we’re not to be enthusiastic at one moment and lose steam the next. Continue reading click here

Devotional : Together Is Where We Belong

Image
As in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12:5 Every so often, someone may ask you, “Do you belong here?” It’s usually asked in relation to a country club, a gym, or something similar. They’re wondering, “Is this a place that identifies you as being on its lists? Do people here know you and accept you, and would they miss you if you were absent? Continue reading click here

Devotional : Viewing Ourselves Rightly

Image
By the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. Romans 12:3 No one is immune to the sin of self-exaltation. To find evidence of this, simply enter any kindergarten classroom. In this little group of children, soon enough somebody will be singing their own praises about building the tallest block tower or drawing the best family portrait—in other words, thinking of themselves more highly than they ought. Devotional : A Call to Commitment

Image
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1 When asked to explain the impact of his life, William Booth, who founded the Salvation Army, replied in one striking phrase: “Jesus Christ has all of me.”
